Susan S. Weiner, former executive director of the Georgia Council for the Arts, died Saturday, August 11, after complications resulting from major surgery.
“Her larger-than-life personality led her to the stage at a young age, and a subsequent career in theater began her lifelong commitment to the arts,” said GCA Director Karen Paty. “She worked passionately to create access to the arts for all Georgians, and took every opportunity afforded her to further the discussion of the value of the arts in our state.”
Weiner, who was 66, headed the arts council for seven years. Before her appointment, she had been the first female mayor of the city of Savannah and designed and taught programs at the Coverdell Leadership Institute.
