If you’ve ever ridden MARTA on a crowded weekday and spotted a woman with a drawing pad busily sketching images of riders on their daily commutes, chances are you’ve seen artist Ana Guzman at work. We recently asked Guzman to sketch a performance of Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre at the High Museum of Art on July 27.
Guzman typically makes her sketches with an ink brush pen: she often adds watercolors to her drawings while she makes them or afterward in the studio, and she frequently bases oil paintings off of her earlier sketches. ArtsATL‘s Gail O’Neill profiled Guzman and her work in early April. More images of Guzman’s pieces — including sketches, watercolors and paintings of her native Cuba, Atlanta street scenes, MARTA riders, musicians, dancers and still lifes — are on her website.
