Estonian pianist Indrek Laul comes from venerable musical stock. His mother, Reet Laul, is a concert pianist, and his father, Venno Laul, founded and was for 30 years chief conductor of the Estonian Boys’ Choir. The New York-based artist will give an informal concert at PianoWorks, at 2805 Buford Highway in Duluth, on Saturday, November 19.
The event will do double duty as an introduction of the latest piano from the Estonia Piano Company. The Juilliard-trained Laul acquired and has rebuilt the enterprise, rescuing it from its decline after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The program will include a documentary film about the importance of music in Estonia, as well as performances by amateur pianists and a concluding reception.
Although the event is free, seating is limited. RSVP to inquiries@pianoworks. com.
