Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) has awarded the fifth annual Nexus Award to Susan Bridges.
An independent curator before opening Whitespace gallery in 2006, Bridges has been an exemplar in the consistently thoughtful and engaging exhibitions she produces and the opportunities for experimentation she gives her artists. She is known for nurturing emerging talent (including bldgs, then a young architecture firm, who renovated the carriage house in her backyard as a gallery). Two of ArtsATL’s 30 under 30 artists, Mimi Hart Silver and Stephanie Pharr, exhibited at Whitespace this year.
But Bridges is much more: a good citizen. Keenly engaged in this art community, the long-time Atlantan supports it in many ways. She opens her gallery to events from benefits for other arts organizations to poetry readings and art performances and supports innovative efforts beyond her gallery that contribute to the scene. Bridges has also given her time as a board member of ART PAPERS, BURNAWAY, i45, Flux Projects, the Atlanta Preservation Center and Atlanta Medical Heritage.
ArtsATL congratulates Susan Bridges, who will receive her Nexus Award on May 6.
