ART + DESIGN

Elizabeth Lide. The artist, recipient of a 2015-16 Working Artist Project Fellowship from MOCA-GA, presents a solo exhibition of new work. Through February 11.  Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia.

Postcard Pin-up Show. MINT gallery presents a show of small, affordable works by local artists. December 16-17. MINT Gallery.

MUSIC

Handel’s Messiah. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs the seasonal classic with the ASO Chamber chorus and soloists Jessica Rivera, Kelley O’Connor, Cullen Gandy and Gerard Sundberg under the baton of ASO Director of Choruses Norman Mackenzie. December 15 at 8 p.m. Symphony Hall.

Cody Marlowe. The Georgia-native singer-songwriter performs a concert of his roots-rock music. December 17 at 8:30 p.m. Center Stage.

THEATER

Let Nothing You Dismay. Stage Door Players presents its second annual production of Atlanta playwright Topher Payne’s Christmas comedy in which eight actors play the 22 members of an eccentric extended family. Through December 18. Stage Door.

Courtenay’s Cabaret: Home for the Holidays. Popular Atlanta actress Courtenay Collins performs a Christmastime cabaret in the intimate downstairs black box space of the Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage. Through December 24. Alliance Theatre.

BOOKS

The Punany Poets Present: The Secret of the Pearl. The Punany Poets’ group celebrates the publication of its fourth anthology of female-focused poems, erotic stories and photographs. December 16 at 7:30 p.m. Charis Books.

Wren’s Nest Storytelling. The former home of writer Joel Chandler Harris offers a weekly storytelling event for families. December 17 at 1 p.m. Wren’s Nest.

DANCE

Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker. The Atlanta Ballet presents its annual production of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet choreographed by John McFall. Through December 24. Fox Theatre.

Zoetic Dance Ensemble at Holiday Rawk. The Atlanta-based all-female dance troupe performs as part of the Raw: Holiday Rawk showcase of underground artists. December 15 at 7 p.m. The Masquerade.

FILM

Solace. Anthony Hopkins plays a psychic working with the FBI to track down a serial killer. Opens December 16. Plaza Theatre.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Lucasfilm presents the first stand-alone Star Wars film, which focuses on a new set of characters in the Star Wars universe. Opens December 16. Atlanta area movie theaters.
