Choreographers named for 2010 Modern Atlanta Dance Festival

This just in: Douglas Scott, artistic director of Atlanta’s Full Radius Dance, has announced the choreographers chosen for the 2010 Modern Atlanta Dance (MAD) Festival. Scott formed the festival, an annual adjudicated event, in 1995. Its goals are to introduce new audiences to a variety of modern and contemporary styles, to provide Atlanta-area choreographers with a professional performance venue, and to bring area dancers, choreographers and audiences together.
Performances are scheduled for Feb. 27 at 8:30 and Feb. 28 at 7:30 at the Marcus Jewish Community Center.
Three out-of-state judges chose the works: Tom Patrick, former dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and director of Taylor 2; Hilary Easton, artistic director of New York-based Hilary Easton + Company; and Cassie Meador, choreographer and member of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. Works that were chosen had to be professional-level choreography in a modern or contemporary dance style, appropriate for all ages and performed at a professional level.
This year’s selected works:
CORE Performance Company’s “The Point” — choreography by Sue Schroeder
Zoetic Dance Ensemble’s “Click” — choreography by Melanie Lynch-Blanchard
Terry Slade/Redemption Dance Theater’s “The Last Day” — choreography by Terry Slade
SIDEWAYS Contemporary Dance Company’s excerpt from “COEXIST” — choreography by Charlotte Foster
Project Seven Contemporary Dance Company’s “Know Me in the Now” — choreography by Cherrise Wakeman
Daryl L. Foster’s “LIFT” — choreography by Daryl L. Foster
As the host company, Full Radius Dance will also appear.
